Independent filmmaker Nikyatu Jusu has been on a meteoric ascent this year with no end in sight. Her debut feature Nanny premiered at Sundance this year and was awarded the festival’s highest accolade, the Grand Jury Prize in the U.S. Dramatic Competition. It’s the first horror film to win in this category, and Jusu is the second Black female filmmaker to receive this honor. The film had its limited theatrical release November 23rd and is set to premiere on Amazon Prime December 16th. She will also receive a Vanguard Award from the Sundance Institute during their inaugural event, Opening Night: A Taste of Sundance this upcoming January.
