Longlegs director Osgood Perkins talked about all things The Monkey in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly recently. After the major success of his indie horror hit starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, Perkins told EW that his odd ideas proved to be money-makers. When Theo James and the production head at James Wan’s company Atomic Monster, Michael Clear, saw his directorial debut, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, they knew they wanted to work with Perkins. With Clear’s producer friend Peter Safran owning the rights to Stephen King’s short story about a cursed cymbal-crashing monkey but no working script, Perkins told EW he took his chance to pitch a unique take on the horror story.
