Oscar Nominations Announcement Delayed Two Days Due to LA Wildfires

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science has delayed the voting period and announcement of the nominations for the upcoming 97th Academy Awards due to the severity of the Los Angeles wildfires. Voting for the Oscars opened on Jan. 8, 2025, and was set to close on Jan. 14, 2025, with the nominations set to be announced on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025. However, on the same day that voting began, tens of thousands of individuals in Los Angeles were evacuated due to the massive wildfires that had started the day prior. Multiple events have already been canceled or postponed, and the Academy Awards is the latest event impacted by the increasing wildfires.
