DC sequel Joker: Folie á Deux could be one of the big surprises of 2024. While many of the most anticipated blockbusters of next year could delay their releases, or have already done so due to the strikes in Hollywood, the Joker sequel is close to finishing its post-production, as revealed by its cinematographer. Surely neither director Todd Phillips nor Joaquin Phoenix, nor even Batman fans imagined that Joker would be such a big success. The 2018 film tells an origin story of Gotham City’s most famous villain, the Caped Crusader’s main enemy, and one of the most popular characters in the world of comic books and pop culture. However, far from doing it with the already known formula of superhero movies, it does so with a character study, exposing social, political and economic conflicts with atrocious violence.
